A 66-year-old hiker, Yu Jinhé, died of abdominal pain in the Taoyuan mountain area in January 2013 while on a trekking trip with six others in the southern section of the Central Mountain Range. The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office accused Shen, the team leader, and five others of failing to render aid and charged them with negligent homicide. The Kaohsiung District Court ruled that the defendants could not have foreseen the death and acquitted all of them. The Kaohsiung High Court upheld the first-instance verdict, and the case is now finalized.
