Several well-known high-altitude hiking trails in Shei-Pa National Park were affected by Typhoons Nesat and Haitang. After restoration efforts by volunteers and staff, the park will resume accepting entry applications from the 4th. However, some sections may require wading, so hikers are advised to take detours or higher routes.
Shei-Pa National Park Administration noted that fallen trees and rocks on the popular Daba Ridge East Trail of Mt. Dabajian have been cleared recently by personnel at the Guanwu Station. Inspections of other mountain trails are also nearing completion. As a result, the high-altitude trails of Shei-Pa — including the Daba Line, Sacred Ridge Line, Xiuba Line, and Daba North Ridge Line — will reopen at 5 a.m. on the 4th.
The administration also reminds hikers that certain sections of the Daba Ridge East Trail remain prone to water crossings at the 8.4K, 8.9K, 9.5K, 10.8K, 12K, 12.2K, 12.9K, 13.8K, 14.3K, 16.7K, and 18.8K marks. Please exercise caution when passing through, as risks may be higher during heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the western ridge of Shei Mountain is now open immediately. Special thanks go to the staff of Anma Mountain Station under Dongshi Forest District Office for assisting with the inspection of the 230 Forest Road. However, the Forestry Bureau’s Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area has announced that Section 47.1K of the Daxueshan Forest Road is currently under remediation work, and access above the 43K mark is prohibited. After the forest recreation area reopens on the 8th, hikers can use the Little Snow Mountain National Trail for entry and exit. Vehicles can only reach Anma Mountain Villa for shuttle service, and currently, vehicles can only get as far as the toll station. Hikers are asked to cooperate accordingly.
Access roads to the Xuejian Recreation Area, including the Simalin Forest Road and County Highway Miaoli 61 connecting the Tiangou Tribe, were disrupted due to landslides, mudflows, and roadbed erosion. After emergency repairs on some sections, the Xuejian Recreation Area — including trails to Dongxishui Mountain, Beikeng Mountain, the Erben Song Interpretation Station, and the Maruta Running Platform Ruins Trail — has reopened to the public.
Visitors can drive from Dahhu along the Simalin Forest Road to the 4.8K fork, turn right onto the Meixing Connector Road, then reconnect to the Simalin Forest Road at the 13.7K mark near the Erben Song Saddle to continue to the Xuejian Recreation Area. For those approaching from Dongshi or Zhuolan, since the section between the Erben Song Saddle and the Tiangou Tribe is impassable, they must take the industrial road next to Meiyuan Elementary School, then connect to the Meixing Connector Road toward the Erben Song Saddle and proceed up the Simalin Forest Road. The large landslide at the 10.8K mark of the Simalin Forest Road is extensive, and it is expected to reopen on the 6th.
