Three men — a 30-year-old surnamed Liu, a 43-year-old surnamed Tsai, and a 50-year-old surnamed Lin — got lost on February 20 while hiking in Beichadian Mountain in Fuxing District, Taoyuan City. Upon receiving the report, Daxi police immediately launched a rescue operation. Fortunately, the three were found at a fork in the road about 2 kilometers from the second trailhead and were assisted down the mountain.
Police said that Liu, Tsai, and Lin, along with nine others, had agreed to meet at 9 a.m. on February 20 in Daxi District, Taoyuan City, before setting off together. Around 10 a.m., they arrived at Beichadian Mountain and entered via the second trailhead to summit the peak. After reaching the top, they planned to return the same way. However, during the descent, Liu began to suffer from exhaustion and mild dehydration. As a result, Tsai and Lin slowed their pace to accompany Liu as he walked slowly. The other nine hikers continued down the mountain and asked Lin, who was also with the group, to wait at the parking lot after descending. If the three did not show up, she was to call for help. Later, after waiting for over an hour and seeing no sign of Liu and the other two, Lin called the fire department for assistance, which then notified Xinei Police Station.
