A hiker collapsed due to exhaustion on the trail between the main peak and East Peak of Qixing Mountain in Yangmingshan, Taipei City, at 12:20 noon today. Emergency services were alerted, and the Taipei City Fire Department requested assistance from the Air Rescue Squadron. When rescuers arrived, the hiker had no breathing or pulse and was airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
Police and firefighters said the 55-year-old hiker surnamed Cheng and his wife had climbed the main and East Peaks of Qixing Mountain in Yangmingshan in the morning. At 12:20 noon, while on the trail between the two peaks, the man felt unwell. His wife immediately called 119, but due to the remote location, it took time for rescuers to reach the site on foot. Police and firefighters promptly notified the Air Rescue Squadron to dispatch a helicopter.
After the rescue team arrived, they administered first aid and at 1:44 pm, the hiker was airlifted down the mountain on a stretcher for emergency treatment.
