With leisure sports on the rise, the Great Wall hiking trail in Dadu District, Taichung City, often attracts many visitors for rest and recreation, making related facilities increasingly important. However, Councilor Chang Chia-an received complaints that the toilets on the Great Wall hiking trail are outdated, lacking facilities for people to wash their feet, and the area around the plaza is untidy. On the 18th, he invited relevant agencies for an on-site inspection, hoping for a swift resolution.
Chang Chia-an pointed out that although the terrain of the Great Wall hiking trail is steep, the environment is serene and the mountain offers great views. Every holiday sees a large influx of visitors for rest and hiking, and the trailhead has even formed a small market. Social groups often choose to hold activities in the trail plaza, but the outdated toilets and lack of family-friendly facilities have caused inconvenience for children and visitors attending these events. He suggested that the city government renovate the existing toilets and plan the construction of new family-friendly ones.
Chang Chia-an also mentioned that some residents complained about their habit of hiking barefoot to enjoy the comfort of "grounding," but after the hike, their feet become covered in mud and sand without any water source for washing, which is very inconvenient. She recommended adding a foot-washing area. In addition, a lot of garbage has piled up next to the trail plaza, not only making the area dirty but also harming its appearance, which the relevant agencies should address as well.
The city’s Tourism and Travel Bureau stated that they will assess the possibility of setting up family-friendly toilets near the trail plaza based on the gender ratio of hikers and various needs. If feasible, they will proceed with construction as soon as possible, with completion expected in the second half of this year. As for the issue of environmental untidiness, the Dadu District Office will step up cleanup efforts.
