The 36-year-old female hiker, dubbed the “bikini hiker,” Wu Jiyun, was climbing the Central Mountain Range alone when she fell into a valley near the path from Penjhu Mountain in Xinyi Township to Wushuang Society on the 19th. Rescue workers found her without vital signs. Many fellow hikers flocked to her Facebook page to mourn her, and her final post, which read “decided to sleep on the highest peak of the Central Mountain Range,” left many heartbroken.
On the 11th, Wu Jiyun was climbing the “Mabolasih Traverse” route in Yushan National Park alone. While passing through the section from Penjhu Mountain in Xinyi Township to Wushuang Society, she fell into a valley 20 to 30 meters deep. She called her friend, a man surnamed Yang, for help, who then reported the incident to the fire department. However, the news turned out to be tragic. Wu was found around noon today and had no vital signs.
Wu shared numerous summit photos on her Facebook fan page, “G’s High Mountain Footprints.” Last month, she posted about slipping and falling, writing fearfully, “I really feel like I’ve cheated death.” Unexpectedly, just a month later, Wu met her fate while passing through the section from Penjhu Mountain in Xinyi Township to Wushuang Society.
Before falling into the valley, Wu posted on Facebook, sharing a photo of the beautiful Guanyin Circle scenery. She wrote, “I don’t like to talk big about ‘scenic views,’ but this one counts — it’s a good one!! Celebrating the fact that there’s finally full sun today!” She also said, “I decided on the spur of the moment to sleep on the highest peak of the Central Mountain Range. The Guanyin Circle needs some backdrop to be truly beautiful,” which made her loss even more heartbreaking. Many netizens expressed their condolences, saying, “Hope you’re still happy in the embrace of the mountain god,” “G — your life has been so wonderful, may you rest with the mountains,” and “Thank you for the brightness you brought.”
