On May 23, 12 members (including 3 female members) of the Tibet Yalaxiangbo Everest Expedition Team, along with 21 high-altitude guides and backup guides — a total of 33 people — successfully reached the summit of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. This marks the first expedition team to successfully summit from the north slope of Everest this year.
May 22 and 23 were the best weather windows for the entire 2019 spring Everest climbing season. Everest is the main peak of the Himalayas, the world’s highest mountain above sea level, located on the border between the mainland and Nepal. The northern part of Everest lies within Tingri County in Tibet. In 2005, the mainland’s National Bureau of Surveying and Mapping measured the rock height (bare height or geological height) of Everest as 8,844.43 meters, earning it the title of “the Roof of the World.”
