Kumamon-themed café to open to public for 30 days; an entire wall of super-cute merchandise is a huge eye-catcher

The highly popular Japanese mascot Kumamon (KUMAMON) theme café is set to begin trial operations tomorrow (29th), though it will not be open to the general public. The official opening is on May 30. During the opening event on the 30th, Kumamon will not only attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 PM but will also put on two performances. Fans hoping to see Kumamon up close should arrive early to secure a good spot.

Aside from food and drinks, the Kumamon (KUMAMON) theme café also sells Kumamon merchandise. According to photos previewed in advance by the official Taiwan fan page, there will be a large variety of adorable goods available, and fans might find their wallets taking a hit. From one snack photo released by the fan page, it appears to be a Japanese-style pancake, but what really catches the eye are the cute little cups used for serving pudding or ice cream.

Kumamon is the mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan, born in March 2011. It was created to promote Kumamoto Prefecture following the full opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen, and has been ranked as the top mascot.
