OLO Coffee Roasters is a café I’ve really come to love recently. With its unrestricted hours and peaceful atmosphere, it’s a place where you can truly relax. It’s also conveniently located in my favorite haunt—the Zhongshan shopping district. I’d heard great things about their egg salad sandwiches and coffee, and after passing by countless times, I finally stopped in—and instantly fell in love.

OLO Coffee Roasters is located right next to Zhongshan MRT Station. It’s just a one-minute walk from Exit R5 of the Zhongshan Underground Mall. The café is tucked away in a very unassuming alleyway and can be easily missed—don’t overlook it just because the alley is so narrow, because OLO is right inside!

As you turn into the alley, the first thing you see is a Japanese-style wooden door bathed in yellow light, gently swaying in the breeze, adding a slightly tipsy charm to the seating area in front. Only then do you realize that the alley where OLO is situated has a completely different vibe from the bustling shopping district outside. Everything around becomes hushed, creating a serene and cozy atmosphere.

Push open the wooden door of OLO Coffee Roasters and step into an even more softly lit interior. There’s almost no sound inside the café, except for the occasional hiss of the barista brewing coffee behind the counter or the clink of cups and plates. At OLO, everyone naturally lowers their voices—it’s an unspoken agreement to help maintain such a comfortable environment.

At the very back of the space, there’s a small room with a large bookshelf filled with comic books. Friends visiting OLO Coffee Roasters are welcome to borrow them.

Almost every seat has its own power outlet, which is incredibly thoughtful for modern-day visitors. Plus, OLO Coffee Roasters stays open until midnight, making it the perfect spot if you’re looking for a quiet place to work on your laptop at night.

When it comes to food, OLO Coffee Roasters doesn’t have an extensive menu. They serve coffee, tea, and sparkling drinks, with only a few savory options like sandwiches and a small selection of daily desserts.

Cheese Egg Salad Patty Sandwich – NT$190

I’d heard from friends that the egg salad sandwich here is generous and delicious, so I was determined to try it. The toast is perfectly crispy, paired with thick, moist egg salad that’s absolutely tasty, along with a homemade patty—not juicy, but solid with a rich flavor. You can even taste the slight crunch of water chestnuts in the filling. One sandwich is just the right amount for one person, and it’s nicely balanced with a refreshing side salad.

Perilla Plum Lemon Soda – NT$160

In the hot summer, drinks with soda and perilla plum are always tempting—this is the perfect beverage for the season. Be sure to stir the jam at the bottom before drinking. It’s sweet, tangy, and refreshingly fizzy.

Vienna Coffee – NT$150

What I love most about this Vienna coffee is the cool whipped cream on top—it’s the star of the drink. The cream is rich but not heavy, with a hint of sweetness and a touch of subtle saltiness. Paired with the coffee, it’s smooth and delicious. The aroma of the coffee isn’t overpowered by the richness of the cream; instead, it lingers steadily in your mouth.

Chiffon Cake – NT$120

The daily chiffon cake flavor may vary. On my first visit to OLO, I had black tea chiffon, but this time I tried the matcha version.

The chiffon cake is soft, fluffy, and elastic. Eating it plain might feel a bit dry, but it pairs wonderfully with whipped cream and matcha sauce. The dominant flavor comes from the rich matcha sauce, reminiscent of the popular Korean matcha milk sauce—but with a finer texture and not as sweet. Neither the chiffon nor the whipped cream is overly sweet, so they’re perfectly complemented by a bit of matcha sauce.

OLO Coffee Roasters has a lovely environment and satisfying food. Even with just the sandwich option, you’ll still leave feeling full. I love the warm, simple vibe here—it lets every visitor enjoy every moment in the café with complete ease.
