Taking the ferry to Cijin in Kaohsiung for sightseeing is about to get more expensive！Starting today, the full fare for the ferry from Kaohsiung has risen from the original NT$15 to NT$25, while the student fare is now NT$20. Users of the EasyCard can enjoy a 20% discount.

The Kaohsiung City Government estimates that the Cijin area receives around 5 million visitors per year, with most tourists traveling to Cijin by ferry. The ferry’s convenience and affordability are also part of Cijin’s tourist appeal. The city government noted that ferry fares had not been adjusted for seven or eight years, so they decided to raise the full fare by NT$10 in one go, representing an increase of nearly 60%.

Special fares, including those for elementary school students, seniors, and people with disabilities, have risen from the original NT$8 to NT$12, while the student fare has increased from NT$12 to NT$20, and the motorcycle fare is now NT$25 per vehicle. However, the Transportation Bureau encourages the public to use the EasyCard to enjoy a 20% discount.

The Kaohsiung Ferry Company stated that the Cijin ferry service is operating at a loss. The company hopes to reflect costs through fare adjustments and improve service quality, giving visitors a better impression and higher service standards for the Cijin ferry. (News source: Central News Agency)
