Fans of skewers must have heard of the “Wu Liu Shou” skewer shop. After solidifying its place in the skewer market, owner Zeng Weiren has now entered the grilled meat market, opening “Wu Sang Yakitori” near the intersection of Civic Boulevard and Fuxing South Road. Most of the meat used is Australian wagyu grade 9+, aiming to offer high-quality yet affordable grilled meat to customers, giving them great value for money.

To create the feel of a Japanese izakaya, Zeng Weiren spent nearly NT$7 million on the interior design. Although the original building was made of concrete, the renovated space looks like an old Japanese wooden house from both outside and inside, exuding a strong Japanese vibe. In addition to regular dining tables and chairs, there is also a bar counter area, so those who want to enjoy grilled meat alone can do so, with staff ready to grill for you at any time. In fact, tableside service is available throughout the restaurant, but manager JJ says that most customers prefer to grill their own meat. However, for higher-end ingredients, they insist on grilling for customers to better control the heat.

Before launching Wu Sang Yakitori, Zeng Weiren had successfully operated several Wu Liu Shou skewer shops, which received great reviews. Blogger Xiao Hu even said it was the best skewers he’d ever had (September 2014). However, due to the positioning of Wu Liu Shou as an affordable skewer shop, there were limits to the quality of meat that could be offered. Coupled with Zeng Weiren’s long-held desire to open a grilled meat shop, after Wu Liu Shou gradually stabilized and grew, he opened this new Wu Sang Yakitori near Breeze Center at the end of April.

Wu Sang Yakitori offers higher-quality beef at relatively accessible prices, focusing mainly on Australian wagyu (grade 9+) supplemented by American beef (Prime), with each portion priced between approximately NT$200 and NT$600. However, what’s special here is the ribeye steak, which is the most expensive item at NT$2,680 per slice. For American beef, the sirloin steak is NT$680 per slice. JJ said the currently popular beef cuts include boneless short ribs, flap meat, thick-cut skirt steak, thin-cut skirt steak, scallion-marinated skirt steak, and thick-cut beef tongue. Due to the premium quality of the beef, to preserve its natural flavor, most cuts are simply seasoned with salt, with only a few marinated in sauce.

Additionally, Wu Sang Yakitori also serves pork, chicken, lamb, duck, local beef offal, seafood, vegetables, salads, soups, as well as fried rice and noodles. Local beef offal includes beef artery, premium large stomach, and beef large intestine, and JJ added that many customers love the taste of beef large intestine. JJ also especially recommends the boneless chicken wings, which many customers are surprised to find are actually chicken wings.
