Tainan has an abundance of uniquely shaped egg cakes — from humorous to cute to elegant styles. Egg cake enthusiasts aiming to collect them all might need to hurry, as a new LEGO-shaped egg cake stall recently joined the scene. Launched in mid-September, its adorable design quickly became a hot topic, often selling out before closing time. Moreover, it’s not available every day, so those eager to try it must line up early. Interestingly, there’s a truly heartwarming reason behind the owner’s choice of the LEGO toy theme.

LEGO is a beloved toy for children everywhere, as it offers limitless possibilities to build anything imaginable. Naturally, adults love it too — after all, every grown-up has a child at heart. Tainan’s "LE GAO" (play on LEGO and egg cake) egg cake stall is built from recycled pallet wood. Though compact, the mobile stall is brimming with ingenuity and creativity. Its decoration features LEGO-themed elements, even spelling out "LE GAO" with LEGO pieces. The molds used create egg cakes in LEGO shapes that are sure to make any childlike adult’s heart skip a beat — they’re almost too cute to eat. The cakes aren’t just visually appealing; their crispy outer layer tastes best when enjoyed fresh and hot.

The owner actually has another job but wanted to make egg cakes with the hope of eventually partnering with schools to provide free egg cakes to underprivileged children. Seeing their smiles is his true motivation for opening the shop. He didn’t expect it to become such a craze, and he feels apologetic for making everyone wait in long lines. However, he also hopes that receiving one of these LEGO-shaped egg cakes brings a little moment of happiness. "LE GAO" is meant to encourage everyone to pursue their endeavors with a joyful attitude.

The owner explained that the egg cakes are made fresh daily without any chemical additives, which is why they can’t be produced in large quantities. Additionally, no water is added to the batter, ensuring the cakes are safe for schools to serve to disadvantaged children for free. With such a thoughtful approach, it’s no wonder the egg cakes draw long lines.

In addition to the egg cakes (NT$30 each), there’s also Thai tea (NT$45 per bottle). For those who want more, there’s a combo set (NT$70).
