Free water play for families and kids at Miaoli Civic Square starting July 1st!

As the hot summer begins, to help residents beat the heat, the Miaoli City Government will activate the civic square’s fountain from July 1 to August 31. The fountain will be open daily from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The fountain in front of Miaoli Civic Square is opened for water play every year and usually draws large crowds of children, but this year’s unusually hot weather had many people online as early as May asking when the fountain would start running. In response, Miaoli City has expanded the paved area around the fountain this year, not only to prevent sand and dirt from entering the play area and affecting water quality, but also to create more space for recreation.

Hong Lianqiao, head of the Park and Streetlight Management Office, explained that the fountain area offers diverse water features, including parent-child water dance displays, fun tap fountains, a cascading archway, animal-themed sprays, water wheels, the newly added zodiac animal water features, an interactive magic ball, and hidden speakers that blend music with the water play experience.

To attract more visitors, the Miaoli City Government is also offering “2 hours of free parking with every visit to the fountain.” Additionally, Mayor Chiu Ping-kun reminded the public not to block the fountains with plastic bags or other objects, to remove shoes before entering the splash zone, and to keep pets out—ensuring a clean and enjoyable space for all. Parents and children are urged to cooperate in maintaining this summertime water play paradise.

In addition, there is also a “Fountain Plaza” located north of Zaobridge Railway Station, which will also open in July. Visitors are welcome to come and enjoy the water fun at Zaobridge Fountain Plaza.
