During the National Day holiday, many passersby near Tainan’s “Linzih Department Store” are drawn to a bright, stylish storefront adorned with traditional Japanese noren curtains. But this isn’t a hipster dessert café—it serves the familiar, beloved taste of fresh fish soup that has accompanied Tainan locals for over a decade.

If you’ve been to “Xiaoman Canteen” on Zhengxing Street in Tainan, you’ll definitely remember Chef “Auntie Wu” Wang Huihui, who always wears a headscarf and greets customers with enthusiasm. With her excellent cooking skills, Wang Huihui and her husband, Wu Zhaorong, originally sold fresh fish soup on Park Road for over a decade. Later, in response to their eldest son’s desire for a change, they temporarily closed the fish soup shop to focus on running Xiaoman.

Now that Xiaoman has found its footing, after more than three years, the couple has decided to start anew, renaming their original “? Fish Soup” to “Hexing Hao Fresh Fish Soup,” giving long-time customers a taste of what they’ve missed.
