Hualien Jingpu Tribe’s New Pacific Flavor Market – Discover Ocean Flavors on Your Palate

During the National Day holiday, the “New Pacific Flavor Market – Tastes of the Palate” at Hualien’s Jingpu Tribe took place on the 8th and 9th unaffected by the rainy weather. The event gathered local East Coast delicacies, tribal crafts, and cultural and creative goods, attracting a steady stream of visitors. It also featured a live performance by Golden Melody Award-winning singer Ilid Kaolo, whose cheerful folk songs accompanied guests through a relaxing afternoon, as well as a tribal cuisine show by Golden Bell Award winner and Amis culinary master Chen Yaozhong. His blend of traditional and creative tribal flavors wowed all who attended.

Organized by the Ministry of Labor’s “Cawi’ Find Flavor Jingpu Brand Industry Empowerment Plan” and planned and executed by the Jingpu Tribe Cawi’ and New Pacific No. 1 Store, this year’s third edition of the New Pacific Flavor Market was themed “Flavors of the Sea.” The local Jingpu Community Development Association presented X.O. sauce made with delicious seafood and “American-style hand-held rice” infused with the tangy and spicy flavors of Amis-preserved foods, treating taste buds to the essence of the ocean.

The event also featured a specially planned “Sea Flavor Gold Quiz” activity in collaboration with Ishizaki Tribe’s specialty grilled flying fish stall, offering insights into the fishing knowledge of East Coast species such as the shortfin mako, sailfish, and flying fish. Additionally, those who answered quick-fire questions correctly were rewarded with free grilled flying fish.

This “New Pacific Flavor Market – Flavors of the Sea” event specially invited Golden Bell Award-winning host and Amis culinary master Chen Yaozhong to showcase his skills. With remarkable knife skills, he prepared whitefin croaker sashimi, along with Jingpu’s “Find Flavor” seafood X.O. sauce paired with wild vegetables and pickled chili peppers—tribal ingredients that he introduced in a lighthearted and enjoyable manner, giving everyone a taste of unique tribal cuisine.

Golden Melody Award-winning singer Ilid Kaolo performed beautiful melodies of lively tribal songs. Together, the Golden Melody and Golden Bell Awards created a delightful feast of tribal music and food for all.
