Japan’s Mount Fuji Opens for Climbing – Free Limited-Time WiFi Available During the Season

With July here, Mount Fuji is once again entering its annual climbing season. The Yamanashi Prefecture side of the mountain has opened for climbing on July 1, while the three hiking trails on the Shizuoka Prefecture side will open on the 10th. This year, to accommodate international climbers, Mount Fuji is offering free WiFi services during the climbing season.

The fifth station of the Yoshida Trail on the Yamanashi Prefecture side of Mount Fuji is now open for climbers until September 14, while the Shizuoka Prefecture side will open the Subashiri, Gotemba, and Fujinomiya trails from 9 a.m. on the 10th, remaining accessible until September 10.

With an increasing number of overseas climbers visiting Mount Fuji, Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures have partnered with local telecom providers this year to offer free WiFi services at locations such as the mountaintop and the fifth stations during the climbing season. Climbers can collect WiFi cards with login IDs and passwords at various trailheads and enjoy free connectivity for up to 72 hours after logging in.
