The Yilan Children's Fun Festival Opens for 4 Days with Water Slides Transformed into Flying Airships

The “2015 Yilan International Children’s Folklore and Folkgame Festival” kicked off on July 4, featuring a joint performance of “Let’s Dance Together – Soaring through the Dreams of Youth” led by musician Matthew Lien along with outstanding domestic and international teams. The event was inaugurated by Yilan County Magistrate Lin Tsong-shyan, Father Michel Jacques who helped internationalize the festival, former Premier Yu Shyi-kun, as well as performers from both home and abroad, ushering in a summer extravaganza from July 4 to August 23.

In 2015, Matthew was once again invited to serve as the music designer, blending two songs and coordinating with the Lanyang Dance Troupe and 20 former festival staff members to choreograph a dance for the opening show, marking the beginning of the festival’s 20th anniversary. Later, Magistrate Lin Tsong-shyan also made a cameo appearance in the final dance segment, wearing a sixth-grade uniform and playing games with the children, radiating youthful energy.

Another highlight of the festival’s annual opening ceremony is greetings from overseas performance troupes in their native languages. Performers from the Republic of China, Bolivia, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Russia, and Thailand said hello to the audience. Following this, the county magistrate led distinguished guests in launching the opening ceremony by shouting together, “Children’s Fun 20, Hearts Soaring,” and launching paper planes into the audience, symbolizing the official start of the 2015 Yilan Children’s Fun Festival.

This year’s festival features many new highlights, such as the key attraction — the 14-meter-high “Game Sky Tower” constructed with steel frames, and the ever-popular water slides that have been transformed into a giant airship, among others, all must-sees of this edition.

Pre-sale Tickets– From June 1 to June 30, pre-sale individual tickets are NT$300 on holidays and NT$200 on weekdays; pre-sale child tickets are NT$200 on holidays and NT$100 on weekdays (for children aged 6 and above but under 12, or those between 115 cm and 150 cm tall),
Pre-sale locations from June 2 to June 28 are Yilan County Cultural Center and Luodong Cultural Factory; from June 1 to July 3, tickets can be purchased at convenience stores 7-11, FamilyMart, Hi-Life, and OK Mart.
Regular Tickets– From July 4 to August 23 during the event period, individual tickets are NT$350 on holidays and NT$250 on weekdays; discounted tickets are NT$300 on holidays and NT$200 on weekdays (groups of 20 or more must enter via the same transportation or be pre-booked groups, National Travel Card holders [one card limit of 2 per day], those holding paper ticket stubs from other counties arriving in Yilan via Taiwan Railways, Capital Bus, Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport, Greater Taipei Bus, or Ubus either the day before or the day of entry [one stub per one ticket], as well as E.SUN Bank cardholders [one card limit of 4 per day] or iPass card users are eligible for discounts).
