The first orchestra from Taiwan to perform there — the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra is heading to the Sydney Opera House!

From July 12th to 14th, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra will tour Australia, performing at the Sydney Opera House and Brisbane City Hall. Today (the 7th), the orchestra held a pre-tour press conference, where visually impaired dizi (bamboo flute) player Mu Qilin and violinist Xiong Tianwen performed “Bamboo Flute Concerto” and “Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto” live.

Lin Jung-hwa, Vice President of the Evergreen Group, said that the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra is the first Taiwanese orchestra to perform at the Sydney Opera House, and expressed the hope that through the soft power of music, Taiwan’s cultural influence can be conveyed to Australia. Deputy Minister of Culture Chen Yung-feng added that he hopes the orchestra’s international engagements will help promote Taiwanese culture.

Established in 2002, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra has performed in 29 cities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas since 2004, with a total of over 600 concerts. In addition to classical Western symphonic music, the orchestra also adapts Taiwanese folk songs into symphonic works for international performances.
