Isn’t summer all about eating ice? Try the fruit-filled longan shaved ice at Beitou’s old-school treat spot.

I had originally planned to try Xin Feng’s special shaved ice last time, but it wasn’t open. Later, I went to Chen’s shaved ice at Beitou Market, which turned out to be pretty good too.

This time, after having beef noodles at Wu’s in Beitou, I swung by again to see if it was open—and it was!! So touched XD Summer is definitely the season for digging into big scoops of ice cream. Let’s head right in.

I remember my classmate Xiaomai mentioning that this place is related to the Polar Bear Shaved Ice in Dazhi, but this spot offers more flavors than the Polar Bear one. Besides shaved ice, they also serve ice cream and drinks. You can mix shaved ice with ice cream or tapioca pearls—there are quite a few ways to enjoy it. A single cup of shaved ice can have up to two flavors. Old K chose longan and taro, while Brother Pao went with chocolate.

Chocolate Shaved Ice (NT$50)
The chocolate tastes just like chocolate ice cream—the chocolate flavor is quite rich. Maybe because Old K isn’t such a huge chocolate fan, it felt just okay XD, but Brother Pao said it was really good.

Longan & Taro Combo (NT$45)
The longan tastes almost like dried longan—you can actually taste bits of dried longan in it too. The shaved ice is super smooth, and Old K really liked it.

At first, Old K thought the owner forgot to add the taro flavor, but then realized it was at the bottom XD. The taro tastes a bit like the old-school Bobo ice pops—really good, though a bit sweeter than the longan. Old K thinks both flavors are delicious, and it’s such a treat to have a cup of shaved ice after a meal.

Old K’s Little Tips: Looks like we’ve got another great ice option for this summer. Old K really enjoyed it—it’s even more to his taste than Yili Bubble Ice in Shilin. But it’s a bit far. If you want to try something similar but find it too distant, you could check out the Polar Bear Shaved Ice in Dazhi, though it has fewer flavors. And if you’re visiting Beitou and craving ice, besides Chen’s shaved ice, Xin Feng’s Special Shaved Ice is also a fantastic choice.
