A 150-year-old Anping heritage home blending the clash of century-old tradition and modern beauty

Ping’an Tree Homestay is a 150-year-old traditional house with a lush old banyan tree planted at its entrance. Nestled in a quiet alley within the bustling Anping District, owner Allen developed a love for Tainan—and even more so for Anping—through work. By a special chance encounter, he and his junior from Chung Yuan University, nicknamed "Baldy," jointly created Ping’an Tree Homestay in Anping.

Push open the nostalgic red door and you’ll enter a courtyard that preserves the original look of the old house. After six months of renovation, it now boasts a fresh new appearance. There are three types of rooms, all named starting with the characters 平 (Ping), 安 (An), and 树 (Shu). The interior design features a modern style with high ceilings, creating a comfortable resting space. Abundant use of natural wood decor brings a warm and rustic atmosphere, while some walls retain the original red brick of the old house, adding a touch of vintage charm through their weathered textures. The space is filled with elements that reflect the collision of tradition and modernity.

“Tree Boss” is Allen’s nickname, which he says was given to him by guests who found it written in the guestbook. Since then, “Tree Boss” has become his official moniker. Allen runs the homestay with great care and has many heartwarming stories, such as becoming good friends with a Hong Kong guest. One such story is about Echo, a Hong Kong traveler on a self-guided trip in Taiwan. Allen said that aside from meeting new friends during her travels, Echo also gave him a hand-painted picture of the Ping’an Tree.

In addition, when guests stay here, Allen also enthusiastically introduces nearby attractions and local delicacies, treating every visitor like a good friend. If you have the chance to visit Anping, take your time to slowly appreciate this historic town with 400 years of cultural heritage—you’ll come away with plenty of nostalgic memories.
