The trolley only moves when you press the handle — Taoyuan Airport introduces 5,000 hand-press brake trolleys

Taoyuan International Airport has been replacing old luggage trolleys in its terminals since June this year, introducing a new type of trolley equipped with a “hand-press brake system” that is used at leading airports in Europe and around the world. The first terminal completed the replacement of 2,500 trolleys in June, while the second terminal began its replacement process at the end of July and will also finish replacing all 2,500 trolleys by early September.

The new luggage trolleys at Taoyuan Airport feature the same hand-press automatic brake system used at major international airports such as Singapore’s Changi, Germany’s Frankfurt, and South Korea’s Incheon. Passengers can simply press down on the handle to move the trolley forward, and it will automatically brake and stop when the handle is released. This design makes the trolleys less likely to move during strong winds or on slopes, facilitating easier luggage loading and unloading while enhancing safety.

The new trolleys can carry up to 200 kilograms of luggage when moving on flat ground. However, when used on electric ramps, to align with the ramp’s weight capacity, please avoid placing more than 80 kilograms of luggage. The rubber wheels equipped on the trolleys also help reduce noise caused by tire friction on the ground.

Taoyuan Airport Corporation noted that there were a total of 4,000 old-style luggage trolleys in the terminals. In response to the significant increase in passenger traffic in recent years, this trolley replacement initiative not only increases the number of new trolleys in the airport to 5,000, but also incorporates a hand-press automatic brake system, taking into account the consistency of trolley usage habits among passengers at leading airports worldwide. The airport corporation will also remind passengers to pay attention to relevant warning signs when using the trolleys.In particular, do not press the handle while moving on inclined electric ramps to avoid trolley slippage; and remember to press the handle to release the brake lock and push the trolley out firmly when exiting the electric ramp.These measures aim to enhance the overall user experience, making the trolleys more convenient and user-friendly.
