Starting September 1, EVA Air Business Class passengers can enjoy Chihshang rice

To help promote Taiwan’s premium rice internationally, EVA Air has partnered with Chihshang Township in Taitung County. For a six-month period starting September 1, travelers can savor the renowned Chihshang rice in business class. This time, EVA Air has selected the award-winning “Special Grade Rice” from the first harvest of 2015 in Chihshang, allowing global passengers to experience its unforgettable aroma through EVA Air flights.

EVA Air Chairman Chang Kuo-wei stated: “Taitung County and EVA Air have built a deep bond since the dedication of the tea tree. Chihshang Township hopes that EVA Air will help promote its rice internationally. With a sense of corporate social responsibility and local care, EVA Air is flying Taiwan’s premium rice around the world, increasing the visibility of Chihshang rice on the international stage. We want global travelers to see the beauty of Taiwan and the dedication and care of Chihshang farmers through every clean, plump grain of rice.”

The award-winning Chihshang rice owes its delicious taste to its location in the Huatung Valley Plain, which offers three exceptional advantages: high-quality soil, excellent water, and a favorable climate. These conditions nurture healthy, plump, fragrant, chewy, and sticky premium rice. The township holds an annual rice quality competition, rigorously selecting the top 10 “Special Prize” winners based on origin certification, food safety, grain plumpness, and taste. From seed selection to sale, each batch has a traceable production record. Its professional certification system even attracted a delegation from the Directorate-General for Trade of the European Commission to visit Chihshang for observation and exchange. To ensure freshness throughout, Chihshang rice is threshed, packaged, and stored in large facilities and warehouses maintained at a constant temperature of 16°C, preserving its flavor and freshness.

EVA Air continuously innovates its in-flight meals, aiming to offer passengers culinary delights from around the world. This time, the airline has spared no expense in using Chihshang rice, making its maiden flight, to share the exquisite taste of Taiwan’s top-grade rice with global travelers.
