Seafood Galore: When Squid Meets Snow Ice – Luodong’s Quirky Ice Treats

On a hot summer day, nothing beats ice cream—or in this case, snow ice—right? That’s exactly what I promised my niece after she helped me out, so I let her pick her favorite snow ice shop. Since I often pass by this place and noticed a red banner advertising that popular shows like “Extraordinary 360 Professions” and “Youthful Good Times” had featured it, I figured it must be pretty good. So, here we are.

This shop is nestled among several school districts, with nearby schools including Guohua Junior High, Beicheng Elementary, Luodong Industrial High School, and Luodong Commercial High School. As a result, there are quite a few students around, and the nearby evening market also draws a fair crowd.

Up close, the shop’s style is truly eclectic—menus and advertisements for various snow ice flavors adorn both the inside and outside of the store.

I’ve never actually watched “Youthful Good Times,” though I’ve heard of it. If I remember correctly, it airs around 10 PM, similar to other travel and lifestyle shows like “Traveler’s Guide” and “The World’s No. 1.”

I didn’t expect to see a Hello Kitty poster as soon as I walked in!!?? It’s pretty cute, though the shop leans a bit too much on the homey side. Still, it has a certain cozy charm—if they cleared out some of the clutter, it might feel even more refreshing.

The shop offers a wide variety of snow ice flavors—but the main focus is on classic snow ice, with a few creative twists added in. Hmm, definitely something to look forward to.

Since my niece was the star of the day, I let her choose. Surprisingly, she went for squid snow ice!!!! She said she saw someone eat it on TV and wanted to try the fun of having a mouthful of black. Haha, true to form, this little girl has a quirky streak—she just had to go for something unusual.

Squid Snow Ice~~ Hmm, this doesn’t look like the photos. Turns out the owner added some new creative touches, turning the originally two-tone squid snow ice into a burst of vibrant colors.

Haha, there are even sakura shrimp!!! It’s truly a seafood medley, served with wasabi sauce too!!! The flavor is really unique.

Haha, taste-wise, the squid flavor is actually pretty good—there’s almost no fishiness at all. According to the owner, the squid is sourced fresh, specifically from the squid’s gallbladder, and prepared using a secret method, which is why it’s almost completely fish-free. The side ingredients are nice too, though they somewhat steal the spotlight from the main squid. A bit of a shame, really.

This one is called “Love Boat,” a banana snow ice!!! The first bite felt a bit different—quite fragrant, though I couldn’t quite put my finger on why. It wasn’t until the owner pointed it out that we realized the snow ice contains actual banana fibers. The ice here is mostly homemade, emphasizing a natural flavor.

The owner showcases her unique aesthetic by turning the banana snow ice into a creative treat. My niece loved it, saying you can enjoy multiple flavors in one bite. Haha, indeed, deliciousness is subjective.

Haha, this is what I ordered—the Drunken Immortal Mulberry Ice!!! You probably won’t find this anywhere else—it’s made with the owner’s own brewed wine turned into snow ice.

Haha, I still think the other toppings shouldn’t be too over-the-top and steal the show from the ice itself. Something simple and cute like this is actually perfect.

This ice has a subtle hint of wine aroma—it’s really unique~~~ You definitely can’t find this anywhere else.
