Faster Connections via Transit Tunnel: New Underground Link Between Domestic and International Terminals at Haneda

Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported on the 28th that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced plans to build an underground tunnel connecting the domestic and international terminals at Haneda Airport, with completion scheduled before 2020. Once the new facility is finished, it is expected to save transfer passengers 20–30 minutes.

Once the underground tunnel is completed, passengers will be able to move directly between security-screened areas within the terminals without leaving the controlled zone. This will eliminate the need to take a bus to transfer between terminals and go through security screening again. Currently, using the free shuttle bus to switch terminals, then passing through security and making connections takes about 80–100 minutes. In the future, whether travelers are flying from a domestic flight out of Haneda or arriving on an international flight and transferring to a domestic one, the process will be much more convenient.
