Tourists hit by landslide on Mount Emei in Sichuan — Taiwan traveler dead, four injured: list released

A landslide occurred at the Mount Emei Scenic Area in China on the afternoon of the 5th due to days of heavy rain, leaving one Taiwanese tourist dead.

The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation said that the “Mainland China Sichuan Jiuzhaigou and Mount Emei Tour Group” organized by Southeast Travel Agency from August 30 to September 6 encountered a landslide around 5:50 p.m. local time on the 5th. Due to road blockages caused by the landslide in the Golden Summit area of Mount Emei, the group was guided by scenic area staff to walk out, but was then hit by another landslide. One traveler, Wu oo (female, 48 years old), has been confirmed dead, and four others suffered head lacerations.

The injured are listed as Fu o Hong (male, 69), Qiu o Kai (male, 24), Zhang o Qing (female, 50), and Zhu o Lan (female, 53). The remaining travelers and tour guide (Li o Yuan: certified Chinese-speaking tour guide) sustained only minor injuries and are in stable condition.

The injured travelers are currently receiving treatment at Mount Emei City Hospital. The travel agency has asked the local receiving agency to assist in handling the situation. Southeast Travel Agency has purchased travel agency liability insurance for all members of the group (all of whom are friends and family), covering accidental death with a payout of NT$5 million and medical insurance of NT$200,000.
