A landslide occurred on the afternoon of the 5th at the Emei Mountain Scenic Area in China, resulting in one Taiwanese tourist fatality and four injuries. The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that the deceased’s body was cremated early on the 6th local time, and the ashes along with the family members are scheduled to fly back to Taiwan from Chengdu in the afternoon of the 6th.

The Tourism Bureau said that the group returning to Taiwan by plane in the afternoon of the 6th includes the deceased’s ashes, their family members, two injured tourists, and other tour members, totaling nine people; the other two injured, three family members, and the tour leader—six people in total—will remain in Sichuan. Jiang Zhiduan, head of the Tourism Bureau’s Beijing Office, has also traveled to the site to provide assistance and visit them.

The incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. on the 5th. Due to continuous heavy rain over several days, the roads at the Emei Mountain Scenic Area were blocked, forcing tourists to walk down the mountain. However, the prolonged rainfall caused soil and rocks to become unstable, leading to a landslide that resulted in one Taiwanese tourist fatality and four injuries.

Updated at 16:50:Currently, the two more seriously injured tourists, Fu ○ Hong and Qiu ○ Kai, have been transferred to Leshan Hospital in Mount Emei, Sichuan for hospitalization, with three family members and the tour leader—four people in total—accompanying them for care.

As for the deceased Wu ○ Zhu, her ashes were cremated this morning. The family members, other tour members totaling nine people (including the other two injured, Zhang ○ Qing and Zhu ○ Lan), are scheduled to take Sichuan Airlines flight 3U-8977, arriving at Songshan Airport at 4:45 p.m. on the 6th. In addition to pick-up arrangements by Southeast Travel Agency, the Tourism Bureau will also work with the Straits Exchange Foundation to assist the group with customs clearance at the airport.
