Is Tokyo’s popular ramen shop Menya Itto expanding to Taiwan? Official website hints at local franchise authorization

Japanese ramen has always been one of Taiwan’s favorite Japanese cuisines. In recent years, many popular ramen brands have entered the Taiwanese market through agency (joint venture) or direct operations, often attracting large crowds of curious diners upon opening, such as Hokkaido’s Ichigen Ramen, which just launched recently. In fact, there are many delicious ramen shops in Japan, such as Rokurinsha at Tokyo Station and Mujirushi in Ikebukuro. Recently, there have been rumors that another popular ramen shop, “Menya Itto,” might also be coming to Taiwan.

Menya Itto is one of Tokyo’s popular ramen spots, enjoying high ratings on local food review site Tabelog (as of September 18, it scored 4.21), often ranking first in ramen evaluations. The shop’s signature dishes are its rich seafood ramen and rich seafood tsukemen, with broth made from chicken stock and simmered with five types of seafood ingredients. Additionally, Menya Itto has two other branches: Ramen Ryo and Tonkotsu Itto.

Is Menya Itto coming to Taiwan? On the overseas expansion section of Menya Itto’s official website, there is acompany expansion profilethat mentions how in February 2015, a Taiwanese company, Sapphire Galleria & Gourmet Corp., obtained a franchise license. However, there hasn’t been any news in the market yet, and no related job postings have appeared on employment websites, suggesting the project may still be in low-profile preparation. Perhaps next year, people in Taiwan will finally get to taste Menya Itto’s ramen.
