Gao Mansion
Gao Mansion
Gao Mansion is situated in Fangshen Village, Zhangtaizi Town, 4 kilometers south of Dengta City. It was the ancestral home of Gao Yuheng, who held positions such as Chief Clerk of the Provincial Government Office, Tax Collection Section Chief, Acting Finance Department Director, Industry Department Director, and Director of the Narcotics Bureau during the Republic of China period. Construction began in 1927 and was completed in 1929. The estate covers an area of 13,920 square meters, with a built-up area of 3,690 square meters, comprising 99 rooms. It is surrounded by a 4-meter-high, 0.66-meter-wide, 470-meter-long brick and stone wall, with a watchtower located at the southeast corner.
Beneath the gatehouse, there is a vermilion gate with tiger-head door knockers. On the ridge of the gatehouse, there are two chicken-claw tassels, symbols of a fourth-rank civil official. On either side of the gate stand three-stepped mounting stones, indicating that the ancestors of the Gao family had served in the imperial court and were honored for their meritorious service. Gao Mansion was designed largely based on the Shenyang Imperial Palace, featuring exquisite craftsmanship. It is the largest and best-preserved “bureaucratic landlord manor” existing in the province. On November 25, 1984, it was designated as a county-level cultural relic.
