  Huanggu Tomb

Early Qing Dynasty Cemetery in Gong’anbao

Located on the southern slope of Wuding Mountain, north of Gong’anbao Village, Xidayaoyao Town, Dengta City, Liaoyang, it is commonly known as Huanggu Tomb. According to the inscription on the "Record of Tomb Relocation and Garden Construction" stele from the 55th year of the Kangxi reign, the cemetery was first established in the 5th year of the Kangxi reign and underwent five subsequent expansions in the 7th, 27th, 32nd, 50th, and 52nd years of Kangxi. The construction was finally completed in the 55th year of the Kangxi reign. The cemetery covers an area of 15,300 square meters and includes structures such as earthen mounds, fences, pathways, jade terraces, guard rooms, stone lions, a government office, and stele pavilions. The relocated burials include the tombs of Pengchun’s great-grandfather He Hechen, great-grandmother Duanzhuanggu-zhu, grandfather He Shaotu, grandmother Princess, great-uncle, and Pengchun’s own parents and siblings—14 individuals in total, forming the ancestral tomb of the Pengchun clan. Burial objects included gold jewelry and sunflower-shaped bone carvings. In front of the earthen burial pit stands a tomb stele erected in the 44th year of the Kangxi reign by Pengchun’s son Fuhan for his parents. The stele is inscribed in Manchu, with the character “誥命” (Imperial Edict) carved in the center. The central line of the stele body reads: “Tomb of Pengchun of the Dong’e Clan, Duke of the First Rank, Commander-in-Chief of the Green Standard Army,” and the names of his five wives are inscribed on either side. To the south of the tomb also stands a stele from the 23rd year of the Kangxi reign commemorating Pengchun’s Imperial Edict.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Plain Red Banner of the Manchu and a key military leader stationed in the Northeast, Pengchun participated in three major military campaigns during the Kangxi era: the Yaksa War against Russian invaders, and the campaigns to suppress the rebellions of Galdan and Wu Sangui, earning significant merit. This cemetery is the burial site of Pengchun of the Dong’e Clan from the Plain Red Banner of the Manchu, along with his great-grandparents and ancestors. All the extant steles at the cemetery serve as important historical materials for the study of early Qing history.
