Huzhu Beishan National Forest Park Originally named Huzhu Beishan Forest Farm, it was established in 1959. After more than 40 years of management, the natural forests have been effectively protected and restored, with intact vegetation and neat forest stands. In November 1992, it was approved by the former Ministry of Forestry to become the Huzhu Beishan National Forest Park of Qinghai Province.
The park is located in the transitional zone from the Loess Plateau to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with terrain sloping from northwest to southeast. The elevation ranges from 2,100 to 4,308 meters, with the highest point being Nanshan Ezuoling at 4,308 meters. The average relative height difference between peaks is around 1,000 meters. The total area of the park is 112,794.7 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 64.3%. The total timber volume is 4.2 million cubic meters, making it one of the best-preserved natural forest resources in Qinghai Province. It boasts rich flora and fauna, including 981 species of higher plants and nearly 200 species of wild animals. Due to its climate, altitude, and geographical location, the natural forest area features distinct vertical landscape zones with clear zonation. Coniferous forests, broadleaf forests, alpine shrubs, and alpine meadows together create a diverse forest landscape. It is one of the most intact natural ecological systems in Qinghai and is hailed as the “Kingdom of Plants” and “Natural Zoo” on the Qinghai Plateau. The mountainous area serves as a green island, wet island, cool island, and water island in an arid region.
