Exit Plaza de Mayo and head west along Avenida de Mayo all the way to the end, and you will see the largest square in the capital — Congress Square. This square is the symbolic geographical center of the nation, and it features a Zero Kilometer Milestone, which marks the starting point of all national highways.
At the western end of the square stands the magnificent Congress Building and the Monument to the Constitutional Assembly of 1813 and the Congress of 1816. The square is also surrounded by numerous sculptures, the most famous of which is Rodin’s “The Thinker,” cast from the artist’s original molds, thus considered an original or “authentic” piece. Flocks of peace doves can often be seen circling overhead or landing to peck at grain scattered by visitors, creating an overall atmosphere of leisure and tranquility.
