The canyon consists of three open sections and two enclosed sections, divided into seven scenic areas: Guangming River, Ying River, Xianghui Rock Waterfall Group, and Xianghui Rock. It is a provincial-level scenic spot that combines mountains, water, forests, cliffs, caves, and bridges, embodying seclusion, danger, wonder, grandeur, and beauty in one valley.
Xianghui Rock Scenic Area is located in Hefeng Township, south of Kaiyang County, over 60 kilometers from Guiyang. The area features rolling peaks, rugged rocks, cascading waterfalls, and flowing springs, presenting a spectacular sight.
Tips
1. The full hiking distance in the scenic area is about 8 kilometers. Hiking is a highlight here, and it takes around 3–4 hours to complete the tour.
2. Xianghui Rock is about 6 kilometers from Nanjiang Grand Canyon. After visiting here on the same day, you can stay overnight and head to Nanjiang Grand Canyon the next day. For dining/accommodation/shopping: There are several well-equipped hotels in Kaiyang County. Accommodation is also available in the scenic area — 2-person rooms at 50 RMB/person, 3–4 person rooms at 30 RMB/person, and camping tents (with full camping gear) at 60 RMB each (prices negotiable).
Several restaurants near Qinghe Bridge serve delicious and affordable home-style dishes, around 10 RMB/person for a satisfying meal. Authentic farmhouse food and fried small flower fish from Qinglong River are also highly recommended. Additionally, Kaiyang’s famous selenium-rich foods and selenium-rich tea are available to try here. The scenic area also offers locally brewed wines such as Golden Leaf Jade Wine and Black Glutinous Rice Wine. Transport: 1. At the tourist bus station opposite Qianling Park, there are direct buses to Xianghui Rock, with same-day return service. 15 RMB/person.
2. You can also take a bus from Guiyang to Hefeng Township (10 RMB/person), then transfer to another bus to Xianghui Rock Scenic Area (2 RMB/person, about 2 hours). If you prefer not to transfer, you can pay extra for the driver to take you directly to Xianghui Rock.
3. For those driving, take the route: Xintianzhai – Shuitian Town – Yangchang Town – Machang Town – Hefeng Township – Changpo Village (scenic area entrance), which takes about one and a half hours; this entrance requires traveling upstream. You can also drive an additional 10 kilometers or so, turn left onto a newly built gravel road, and reach the other scenic area entrance (back gate), from where you can go downstream to reach the Changpo Village entrance.
