Wangchi Pond

Wangchi Pond
The surface of Wangchi Pond sits at an altitude of 1,850 meters and covers an area of about 2,000 square meters. The water is clean, and the pond is surrounded by marsh grass and cattails, accompanied by beautiful dwarf birch and larch trees. Small fish swim in the pond, and there are many frogs and birds in the woods. The clear water is often filled with the “croak-croak” of frogs and the “tweet-tweet” of birds. The lake water is blue-green, tranquil as a precious mirror, reflecting the clouds in the sky and the trees on the shore. Dragonflies are often seen dancing over the water. There is a little story behind the name of Wangchi Pond. Legend has it that Nurhaci, also known as the Little Khan, fell ill while digging for ginseng in the Changbai Mountains. He recovered and survived thanks to drinking the water from this pond. Grateful for the life-saving water, Nurhaci, after achieving greatness and unifying the north, returned to the Changbai Mountains and visited the pond. He said, “The common folk call me the Old Khan King, so I should call this life-saving pond the King!”
