Ferry Crossing Kapok Tree

Also known as the "Ancient Ferry Kapok," it is one of the major landmarks of Liuku, with a history of over 400 years. It is a rare and precious tree under special protection in Liuku. The tree stands 20 meters tall with a trunk diameter of 5.13 meters. In the hot summer months, Liuku can get quite intense, but this tree offers lush foliage that provides ample shade, with cool river breezes blowing through — making it a favorite summer retreat for locals. It’s also a must-visit spot for out-of-town visitors. During the Anti-Japanese War period, the Nujiang River area served as an important rear base for the national resistance effort. At that time, the local Lisu chieftain led the people of Nujiang in resisting the Japanese invaders, and many heroic deeds unfolded near the Kapok Tree. The tree's crown was struck by Japanese artillery fire but remained standing firmly to this day. For this reason, the people of Nujiang affectionately call it the Hero Tree.
