Sheyang Island Park is situated on the picturesque shores of the Sheyang River, with Xixin Temple to the east, Mingda College to the south, the Sheyang River to the west, and a nearby seaside resort across the river. The park covers a total area of 73 hectares. There is a beautiful legend about the origin of Sheyang Island. In ancient times, there were ten suns in the sky, causing all things to wither and bringing great suffering to living beings. A divine archer named Houyi decided to rid the people of this calamity. Setting out from the coast of the East Sea, he drew his bow and shot three arrows—"whoosh, whoosh, whoosh"—bringing down three suns. Two of them fell into the water, while the third teetered and eventually landed, forming Sheyang Island. Since then, on clear and sunny days when the setting sun casts its glow, you can see three suns: one in the sky and two in the water. This forms the unique “Three Suns Guarding the Tripod” spectacle.
Sheyang Island Park was designed and planned in 1993 by the Wuxi Planning Institute, with a total investment of 7.5 million US dollars. It has now taken initial shape. Major attractions in the park include an archway, Plum Blossom Mountain, Osmanthus Mountain, Peony Garden, winding bridges, an amusement park, a fishing center, a peacock garden, an ostrich park, and a monkey park. During the bright, sunny seasons when flower shadows dance about, the park is filled with the refreshing fragrance of plum and osmanthus blossoms. Strolling through this ocean of flowers and world of birds, listening to the beautiful legend of "Houyi Shooting the Suns" and gazing at the unique "Three Suns Guarding the Tripod" sight is truly an endless delight.
