Río Pilcomayo National Park has been included in the Ramsar Convention's list of Wetlands of International Importance, playing a significant role in wetland conservation. Based on the diversity of plant life within the park, it is divided into four sections: tropical savanna, wetlands, highland areas, and the Río Pilcomayo zone. The wetland area is home to aquatic vegetation, where plants such as water hyacinth, limnophila, pistia, and ludwigia are widely found. In this park, visitors can admire beautiful grasslands and white carob trees, while the low marshlands and its island-like hills at the highest points showcase nature’s beauty in full splendor.
Due to the region’s climate and its advantageous location near forests, this national park naturally serves as a habitat for a rich and diverse array of wildlife. Capybaras, wild boars, howler monkeys, helmeted guineafowl, maned wolves, and rheas are among the most commonly seen animals here.
