Immortal Fishing Terrace

      Guide:

To the north of Three Curves Stream stands a solitary, steep peak that pierces the sky. Below the peak, the stream winds around, and midway up the peak lies the Zhenwu Cave, at the mouth of which is a withered tree stump. It is said to be the spot where Jiang Taigong fished. On the opposite bank are the Banquet of Immortals Terrace and Little Hidden Peak, among other scenic spots.   Introduction       Previous stop: Jade Maiden Peak

The boat coffins on Little Hidden Peak are said to be remnants of houses built by the ancient Yue people, while archaeologists believe them to be the hanging coffins of the ancient Yue. Research indicates that as early as the Neolithic Age, the ancient Yue people lived and thrived in the Wuyi Mountain area.

The ancient Yue people were accustomed to living in clusters along streams and in valleys between mountains. They were skilled in felling trees and building boats, and boats were the most precious items in their lives and work. When someone died, they would hollow out a large nanmu tree trunk into a boat-shaped wooden coffin for burial.

The ancients placed these wooden coffins on cliffs in ways that remain unexplained to this day—these are called "hanging coffins on cliffs" or simply boat coffins. The wooden planks used to support the coffins or build plank roads were called "rainbow bridge planks." These date back 3,400 years.
