Pufutong Pine

　　- Pine: One of the Ten Famous Pines, listed as a World Heritage site. Located along the path from Yuping Tower to Lianhua Valley, beneath Eagle Rock. It stands at an altitude of 1,610 meters, with a tree height of only 3 meters, a breast-height diameter of 35 cm, and a crown diameter of 10 meters, casting a shadow over an area of 78 square meters. Its lateral branches are densely clustered around the 2-meter mark, curling thickly around the trunk before extending horizontally and tilting toward the north. The pine needles are densely packed at the top, and the crown spreads out flat, resembling a meditation mat woven from cattail—used by monks and Taoists for sitting or kneeling during worship—hence the name. The tree is estimated to be about 350 years old.
