Chuan Dongzi

Chuan Dongzi is situated within the Chaoyangguan Scenic Area, on the outskirts of Ye Zhou Town, Jianshi County. Adjacent scenic spots include Chaoyangguan, Mi Shui River, Zha Mu Shui Canyon, Shi Gu Men, and Bao Ta Shan. The “Ten Scenic Spots of Chaoyangguan”—including Tian Chi Ming Jing (Heavenly Pool Mirror), Shi Dong Fei Quan (Stone Cave Flying Spring), Hu Tou Ang Cui (Tiger Head Proud Greens), Ya Xuan Bai Yin (Cliff Hanging White Mark), Hu Bang Tian Kai (Tiger List Heaven Open), Peng Lai Xian Jing (Penglai Fairyland), Shi Jian Tian Qiao (Stone Gully Sky Bridge), Shi Song Wu Sha (Stone Standing Black Hat), and Feng Wei Tuo Qing (Phoenix Tail Dragging Green)—were recorded in the Qing Dynasty’s Jianshi County Annals. With the exception of Shi Tan Ye Hou (Lion Beach Night Roar), which no longer exists, the other nine spots largely retain their original appearance. The Shitong Cave at the mountain foot was included in the China Scenic Spots Dictionary in the 1990s.    Chaoyangguan, also known as Feng Guan Shan (Phoenix Crown Mountain), features the Tian Chi Temple, commonly referred to as Chaoyangguan—locals often use the temple’s name to refer to the mountain. This mountain stands out within a hundred-li radius of the county for its distinctive Danxia landform, differing greatly from the surrounding hills. The mountain is covered in lush trees, filled with birdsong and floral fragrance, refreshed by gentle breezes, and crisscrossed with serene winding paths. It also boasts numerous caves and ever-flowing springs, making it an ideal destination for exploration and tourism. It has been celebrated in poetry by literati throughout the ages, including 28 poems about Shitong Cave by notable figures such as the Northern Song poet and calligrapher Huang Tingjian.    The original Tian Chi Temple was abandoned in the early 1950s and was rebuilt in the late 1990s. Development of the site is currently underway. Chuan Dongzi hosts a forestry farm, and the former forestry office has been converted into a “manor” for receiving tourists.
