Yongfeng Chan Temple
Yongfeng Chan Temple was originally constructed in 868 AD during the Later Tang Dynasty. It was funded and established by a local ancient Buddha known as Monk Zaoguang, with the dharma name Zaoguang, and a benefactor named Chen Youyou. The temple was initially named Yongfeng Renshou Temple, and later also called Taizhi Temple (named so because the immortal peach is a pure fruit of the celestial realm, and when peach blossoms bloom on the branches, the Buddha can be seen — hence the name Taizhi Temple). By the year 1013 AD during the Song Dynasty, the temple was expanded once again. The renowned monk Koubing (an incarnation of the ancient Buddha of the local region) served as the abbot of this temple and was revered as the Ancient Buddha Koubing. At that time, he was also appointed as the National Preceptor of the Min Kingdom. Under the leadership of this esteemed master, the temple flourished with incense offerings and gained some fame both domestically and internationally. However, due to successive wars and the destruction caused during the campaign to "eliminate the Four Olds," the temple fell into disrepair. Today, under the guidance of the national reform and opening-up policy, Yongfeng Chan Temple has not only been restored to its original state but has also been expanded to include the Heavenly King Hall, the Great Compassion Hall, the mountain gate, a liberation pond, a pavilion for cultivating virtue through good deeds, and mountain paths.
