The Volkswagen Arena is one of Germany's most important stadiums. Construction began in 2001, and it was completed and opened in 2002 at a cost of 53 million euros. Serving as the new home stadium for VfL Wolfsburg, it can accommodate over 30,000 spectators for matches. The arena is mainly used for VfL Wolfsburg’s games, and it was here that the team won the Bundesliga championship in the 2008–09 season—their first-ever top-flight league title.
