Duck Male Islet is situated on the southeastern side of the expansive Senping Reef flat. A small island created by a prominent pinnacle reef is called Duck Male Islet. The island primarily consists of reef blocks, with some scattered herbaceous plants growing on it. The island has developed atop a pinnacle reef, and is surrounded by deep water. This type of reef structure grows in isolation within the lagoon and tends to form most easily at “passes” (gaps), particularly in areas where currents are strong and wave action is intense due to their proximity to the pass. Additionally, the abundance of plankton brought in from the open sea or the lagoon fosters the growth and merging of reef heads, eventually forming a small island.
