Hamilton Zoo

　　Hamilton Zoo is located in the western suburbs of Hamilton, Waikato District. Established in 1969, it covers an area of 25 hectares and is the only zoo in Hamilton. Its most distinctive feature is housing the largest free-flight aviary in the Southern Hemisphere.

　　Hamilton Zoo is home to about 400 animals from 93 species, including over 50 types of birds from around the world, making it a true paradise for bird lovers. The birds in the aviary live in a free, open, and naturalistic environment that provides optimal conditions for their survival and breeding. The zoo’s animal and bird collection includes tuatara, New Zealand geckos, red pandas, spiny mice, alpacas, siamangs, spider monkeys, Brazilian tapirs, North Island kaka, kea parrots, kookaburras, honeyeaters, and the rare blue duck, among others. The zoo also hosts scheduled animal shows daily, which are both thrilling and highly entertaining.

　　Hamilton Zoo has a café and restaurant offering coffee, lunch, and cold drinks for visitors’ convenience. The zoo is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM every day except Christmas, remaining accessible year-round.
