The lake features a winding and ever-changing shoreline. In wider sections, the water blends seamlessly with the surrounding mountains, dotted with flocks of wild ducks; in narrower parts, the deep, crystal-clear waters are dotted with small boats, adding a touch of liveliness to the otherwise tranquil, virgin-like lake. The numerous inlets and surrounding low hills form a vast natural maze. Due to the cliff formations in certain areas, many natural attractions have been created, such as Lazy Dragon Rock, Tiger Stone Cave, and Eagle Beak Rock, giving visitors the feeling of entering a magical fairy-tale world. The Xiangshuiyan Waterfall and San Kuai Shi Waterfall echo for miles, offering delightful sights and sounds. Here, you can watch the sunrise in the early morning, admire the sunset glow in the evening, or paddle across the lake, breaking the silver-like waves. With boats gliding on the water and people seemingly strolling through a painting, it is an ideal destination for sightseeing, tourism, leisure, summer retreats, conferences, and recreation.
Shuanglong Lake is one of Chongqing’s “Little Ten Scenic Spots.” The reservoir was completed in 1983, featuring the Shuanglong Lake Dam. The lake surface consists of two water arms—one extending from west to east and the other from north to south—that converge at the dam. The lake is full of twists and turns, with over 100 inlets. Inlets longer than 100 meters give the water an elongated, winding, and ever-changing appearance, creating the unique natural scenery of Shuanglong Lake. The water surface of the lake area has an elevation difference of within 40 meters compared to the surrounding low hills, forming a layered and richly varied landscape where the lake and mountains complement each other. The Shuanglong Lake Dam is built at the confluence of two streams, naturally forming a round, independent small island, resembling “two dragons embracing a treasure,” hence the name “Shuanglong Lake” (Double Dragon Lake). In wider sections, the lake offers a view where water and mountains blend together, with flocks of wild ducks, white cranes spreading their wings, and birds soaring freely; in narrower parts, the deep, clear waters are captivating. The area's cultural landscapes, including ancient Ming Dynasty fortress ruins and Han Dynasty cliff tombs, complement the beautiful natural scenery, forming numerous attractions such as Double Dragon Waterfalls, Mysterious Deep Bays, Moonlit Dragon Lake, Misty Green Islands, and Sunset Glow over Solitary Fortress. The scenic area boasts picturesque natural landscapes, rolling hills and low mountains, serene countryside views, and a harmonious integration of mountains, water, forests, caves, and karst formations, creating a wealth of natural and cultural attractions.
