　　Fangzheng County is the birthplace of the upland seeding and sparse planting technique for rice. It is the third county in our province to be approved by the national and provincial Green Food Centers for the cultivation, processing, and sale of green rice. The county has 400,000 mu of rice fields, accounting for 80% of its total arable land. The rice has a large yield and high quality, featuring rich nutrition, crystal clarity, and a soft, palatable texture. It is highly favored by domestic consumers. Fangzheng County has been awarded the title of “Hometown of Green Selenium-Rich Rice” by the Ministry of Agriculture and has received the “China Origin Rice Protection” label.

　　As one of the main production areas of northeastern rice in Heilongjiang Province, farmers in Fangzheng County began cultivating “Red Hair Rice” as early as 1818 (the 23rd year of the Jiaqing reign in the Qing Dynasty). The county ranks first in Heilongjiang Province in both the proportion of paddy fields to total arable land and per capita income from paddy fields. According to 2010 statistics, the county had 1.02 million mu of arable land, including 850,000 mu of paddy fields, accounting for over 80% of the total arable land. By 2010, the area under green rice cultivation in Fangzheng reached 500,000 mu, with 80,000 mu certified as organic rice. The rate of high-quality rice varieties reached 100%. The price of green food rice was more than 20% higher than that of ordinary rice, generating an increase in farmers' income of over 10 million yuan.
