Wudalianchi soybeans are produced in Wudalianchi City, Heilongjiang Province (formerly known as Dedu County). According to the Dedu County Annals, during the Republican era, the planting area of Wudalianchi soybeans was second only to that of millet. From the puppet Manchukuo period until after liberation, soybean cultivation consistently ranked first in area. The soybean farming level in Wudalianchi is relatively high, with an average yield of about 200 kilograms per mu, peaking at 275 kilograms per mu in 1974. In 1994, Dedu County was approved by the state as one of the five hundred major grain-producing counties. Wudalianchi City was designated as an “Heilongjiang Provincial Soybean Revitalization Plan Demonstration City.” In 2012, approval was granted to establish a 500,000-mu soybean base as a national standardized production base for green food raw materials. In the same year, it was recognized as a national agricultural standardization demonstration county, with soybeans as the demonstration product. In 1989, Mr. Taoredou, a Brazilian soybean expert leading a soybean breeding research project under the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, specifically visited Dedu County to study its soybean production and gave it high praise, also offering valuable suggestions for improving the production standards of Wudalianchi soybeans.
