"Meihe Rice" is produced in Meihekou City, Jilin Province, where the agricultural ecological environment is highly suitable for rice cultivation. This results in exceptionally high-quality rice — the grains are as clear and lustrous as jade, the cooked rice is fragrant, soft yet firm, and even cold rice does not harden, making it very popular among consumers. In 1990, it was designated as an exclusive food for the 11th Asian Games in Beijing. In 1995, after approval by the China Green Food Development Center, "Meihe Brand" Meihe Rice obtained the right to use the Green Food logo. Meihe Brand, Meixue Brand, and Shengsheng Brand green food Meihe Rice have frequently won awards at major domestic and international agricultural expos, earning numerous accolades including Most Satisfactory Product to Consumers, Expo Gold Award, Jilin Famous Brand, and China Famous Brand.
Meihekou City is a major rice-producing area in Jilin Province. It began implementing standardized cultivation as early as 2002 and was approved as a National Green Premium Rice Standardization Demonstration Zone in 2005. A number of local standards have been established, including the *Production Process Regulations for Green Premium Rice* and the *Mechanized Cultivation Technical Regulations for Green Premium Rice*. [1] Meihe Rice boasts high-quality processing. Several large-scale rice processing enterprises generally adopt world-class rice processing equipment. All operations are fully automatic, fully enclosed, dust-free, with moist polishing and vacuum packaging, ensuring top-notch quality through advanced equipment support.
Meihe Rice, primarily under the brands Meihe, Meixue, and Shengsheng, is sold in over 30 major cities across China including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming, Shijiazhuang, Guilin, Taiyuan, Lanzhou, Haikou, Xi'an, and Urumqi. It is also exported to more than ten countries and regions such as Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Russia. The rice has entered well-known supermarkets both domestically and internationally. It is available in major retail chains such as Shanghai Hualian, Lianhua, Shenzhen Wanjia, Beijing Tongrirsheng, Hong Kong ParknShop, as well as in large supermarkets within China like U.S.-based Sam's Club and Walmart, France’s Carrefour, and Japan’s Aeon.

The protection scope of the Meihe Rice Geographic Indication Product is based on the range proposed in the *Letter on Determining the Geographic Indication Product Protection Area for Meihe Rice* (Meizhengban Han [2006] No. 5) issued by the People's Government Office of Meihekou City, Jilin Province, covering the entire administrative region of Meihekou City, Jilin Province.
