Hujia Village Big Cherries
Hujia Village, located at the southernmost tip of Shuangdaowan Subdistrict in Lushunkou District, Dalian, is about 20 kilometers from the district center. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the sea on one side, covering a total area of 4.3 square kilometers with a population of 1,109 people and arable land of 2,276 mu.
Hujia Village has superior geographical conditions, a pleasant climate, and good water quality, making it highly suitable for growing big cherries. From 2003 to 2005, after three years of effort, the village carried out industrial restructuring. A total of 1,800 mu of farmland was returned to forest and converted into orchards, including 1,200 mu (about 60,000 trees) primarily planted with big cherries. By 2008, 500 mu of the orchards had begun to bear fruit, showing initial economic returns. In 2008, to further develop and promote Hujia Village's big cherries and enhance the orchard’s visibility, the village government invested 3.16 million yuan in infrastructure improvements. Now, the orchard is crisscrossed with oil roads inside and out, and is equipped with comprehensive service facilities, bringing hope and economic benefits to local fruit growers.
Shuangdaowan Subdistrict’s Hujia Village has made big cherry planting technique training a flagship initiative. By continuously updating concepts, expanding training audiences, broadening the scope of training, and tapping into domestic markets, it has developed into a regional rural technical service organization that integrates rural science education, practical farmer skill training, and pre-production, mid-production, and post-production fruit services. It has become a leading example of agricultural industrialization in Shuangdaowan Subdistrict.
