Located on the foothills of the Changbai Mountain range, Kuandian Manchu Autonomous County in Dandong features dense forests and a high proportion of natural woodland. The area boasts an eco-friendly environment, making it one of the best habitats for forest frogs. Due to its unique microclimate, forest frogs in Kuandian spend longer periods foraging on the mountains and have shorter hibernation times, resulting in significantly higher quality frogs and oil compared to other regions. The forest frog is an amphibious wild animal valued both for food and medicine, and is ranked among the Four Northern Mountain Delicacies along with ginseng, marten fur, and deer antler. Forest frog oil is highly nutritious and medicinal, making it a premium tonic and an excellent beauty-enhancing product.

Forest frog farming is a major and promising industry in Dandong’s mountainous forestry economy. Kuandian Manchu Autonomous County leads the nation in both wild forest frog and frog oil production, and is one of the primary production areas for northeastern forest frogs, often referred to as the “Hometown of Forest Frogs.” Currently, Dandong’s forested areas host over 3,000 enclosed frog farming valleys, with 4,059 specialized farming households, producing more than 80 million market-ready frogs annually and generating a output value of 240 million yuan. The city has 20 key towns focused on forest frog farming, including Yulong Town in Fengcheng City and Dachuantou Township in Kuandian County, where annual output values exceed one million yuan.

Mr. Wang, who has been in the furniture business in Dandong for many years, used to purchase Dandong specialties every year to give to family, friends, and business partners. But since last year, he has turned his attention to the ready-to-eat forest frog oil produced by Beifang Shanqi. He said: “I choose ready-to-eat forest frog oil as my top gift item because it is highly regarded among my family and friends in cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. Everyone says it’s convenient to consume, safe and reliable, has a high-end feel, and truly lives up to being a Dandong specialty and a provincial brand-name product.”
