Gaizhou has a long history of apple cultivation, dating back over a century. At its peak, the area under cultivation and apple yield ranked first among all counties in China, earning it the title "Hometown of Apples." In recent years, the Gaizhou municipal government has vigorously implemented the strategy of "revitalizing agriculture and the city through apples," strongly promoting the construction of the "one-county-one-industry" initiative, which has once again made the apple industry a distinctive and prosperous pillar sector benefiting local people. Currently, the apple production area in Gaizhou covers 315,000 mu, with 14.1 million trees, involving 183 administrative villages and 190,000 farming households across the city. Last year, Gaizhou produced 300,000 tons of apples, generating an output value of 1.5 billion yuan, with 58,700 tons exported, earning foreign exchange of 58.73 million US dollars. Led by leading enterprises such as Longxin Company and 230 fruit cooperatives, the city has also developed 120,000 mu of contracted apple farming, connecting 70,000 households, and established 350,000 mu of pollution-free production areas. The high-quality apple production rate exceeds 85%. Twenty-three geographical indication trademarks for apples have been registered, including "Gaizhou Apples," "Fuda," and "Yingxingyue." High-quality apple varieties have won 168 awards, including gold medals, at national and provincial agricultural exhibitions, ranking first among all counties in the province in both gold medal and total award counts.
